Here, the artist emphasizes Hamlet’s relationship with the ghost of his murdered father, whose figure looms in the background, passing through the ramparts of Elsinore. Hamlet’s obsession with death is emphasized by the inclusion of the drowned Ophelia, who lies adorned with flowers at his feet.
