Description

1900 advertising poster of the bicycle manufacturer Phebus. The name is borrowed from Helios, the Greek god of the sun, who leaves the eastern part of the Ocean every morning on a chariot drawn by four white horses, and descends in the western part in the evening.

Phoebus is one of the main epithets used to describe him, literally translated as “bright”. In the poster, Phoebus leaves his old chariot and switches to a new bicycle.

Artist — Francisco Tamagno.
